Laura Zelenko on How Bloomberg Makes Women Count in Business News
Laura Zelenko
In our third episode of “Peer-to-Peer,” Bloomberg’s Global Standards Editor tells about the ways in which the business and finance-focused news organization is making its reporting and newsroom more inclusive.
Laura Zelenko has been a journalist for over 40 years, and has spent most of her career with Bloomberg. Currently the Global Standards Editor at Bloomberg, she has previously held different editorial positions there, which has informed her vision.
In 2018, she launched the New Voices initiative, a program that aims to encourage more women who are experts in business and finance to share their expertise in the news. For the past few years, she has been pushing for more diversity within the newsroom as well.
In this insightful conversation, Laura Zelenko recounts how women’s representation came to be a main subject at Bloomberg in the first place, and how they keep track of their progress over time. She also highlights the ways in which more inclusion actually leads to better stories.
